Fig Preserves Recipe
Anybody else’s figs all get ripe at the same time? If you have a fig tree, you know what I’m talking about! To make the most of the nutrient packed fruit, we make preserves to extend their shelf life. The preserves spread well on a turkey sandwich or pair nicely with a variety of cheeses for your next charcuterie board. Enjoy for up to 2 months when stored properly in the fridge.
Homemade Fig Preserves
Ingredients
-30 fresh figs
-1/4 tsp lemon juice
-1/4 cup maple syrup
-1/4 tsp cinnamon
-1/4 tsp salt
Directions
1) Wash and dry figs. Cut the stems off and quarter figs. The smaller pieces you cut, the shorter time they’ll take to simmer down.
2) Place figs in large pot over low heat. Stir in lemon juice, maple syrup, cinnamon and salt.
3) Bring pot to a boil then lower to low heat for 1-1 and a half hours. Stir occasionally.
4) Remove from heat and let cool before placing preserves in clean jars.
5) Store preserves in the refrigerator for up to 2 months.
Enjoy!
